Stat-Whore Moments
And the word Bara.
I have about 80 visitors who read my blog daily-when I post about 3 times a day, that’s over 240 ‘unique hits’. The rest of the hits coming in from Google search, LJ feeds, and RSS feeds - I have no clue
But I was looking at the Geo counts and the top 20 was interesting:
United States - 53.28%
Canada - 7.64%
United Kingdom - 4.24%
Germany - 3.26%
Japan - 2.24%
Italy - 2.16%
Australia - 1.99%
Philippines - 1.98%
France - 1.94%
Brazil - 1.60%
Going over my stats are fascinating, it’s like my own private webisode of Sesame Street. I can see who links to me, where people are coming from, what search words brought them to me, how they’re getting my updates - etc. WordPress also gives you a Dashboard loaded with stats info–they can tell you which entry you made is most popular, how many people are clicking through to the links you set up, everything.
Right now, the top posts are ‘That damn Bara Article‘ which has been the most viewed for months now >.>, the MAS entry, and There is No Yuri in Hentai for Men. LOL! My biggest referrers are from the Boytoons blog, the ‘gay-manga‘ RSS Feed from WordPress, Yaoi911’s ‘What is Bara?’ entry, and the Shirtless Superheroes blog.
I’ve seen a definite trend develop as gay comic fans are garnishing interest in the porn medium. While I think this is a good thing that more and more gay men develop an active interest in gay comics, they should realize that it’s not all just comics from Japan. I got this email today asking me to pass on this post for “Please Blog-this new Bara Homoerotic Web Comic.” :/
As much as I love pimping comics I like, this webcomic is not “bara”, it’s written by an Western writer and drawn by an artist from Europe and it’s not even in the ‘manga’ style. Now after I looked at a page [that's all that's up right now] - I was a bit put off by the email subject line. :/ If I decide if I like this webcomic, then I’ll pimp it–but trying to hook me with ‘bara’ in the email subject line…
((=_=))
I like gay comics, not just ‘muscle BL’, ‘mens love’, or ‘bara’ from Japan. I even dig those silly over stylized color comics from France where the men have vein- ridden penor the size of tree-trunks, and I appreciate those crudely drawn and often lurid gay indie fumetto from Italy. Shit, I even like those comics coming out of South America right now, the ones that are nothing more than ‘Japan style’ rip-offs with little to NO plot… The only thing I don’t like is furry and anthropomorphic. So you don’t have to lure me in with the word ‘bara‘ - just make a good comic and if I like it, I’ll read it and talk about it. Yet I can’t help but look at my stats and referral words and see that “bara” has become the new umbrella term for ‘gay comics’. ![]()
