My Creative Days Are Booked

So what’s next? La Mestiza, I’ve written off. The artist isn’t making the project a priority, so neither am I. There’s no money up front right now, so she’s not obligated in anyway to make anything for it–also, she has school and I have novels to complete. (^_-) Another things that irks me, I wont be able to submit new projects to companies I wanted to submit to [IDW and DH], because my free time is going to be used on my own works.

I go back to RL work on the 12th [strike or no strike], which means I’ll be on less and less after Mid-January. [1.] The first priority is the novel Lost Along the Way. It’s complete, it just needs revising before being turned over to the editor. The artist has has the first draft of the manuscript, so she can get an idea on characters and cover art. Revisions for that will run through until the end of February [I know that's a long time for me, but the writing-for-pay job will get in the way.]

[2.] In March 2008, I need to get back to ‘The Whore of Turfan‘. I’ve decided to make this a novel, instead of a graphic-novel. It’s going to be tough to complete this in a timely manner, mainly because of RL work, combined with the pre-press required for ‘Lost‘ which is scheduled to release in June 2008. I’ll have work on Turfan in spring and summer, if I want to complete it and have it ready for revising in late fall. My production writing ends in the fall–so my time will still be limited…extremely–due to September pre-press on two GN releases, and scriptwork on a third GN called Cataldo. [[Laura Carboni will complete Roulette late 2008, and we planned on starting our next GN, Cataldo in January 2009--meaning I must have the script done for her, by then.]] Starting September 2008, I need to begin letters and pre-press on ‘Games with Me’ and ‘Loud Snow’, both are graphic novel releases that will be published in the winter [November/December respectively], and so getting ‘Turfan‘ ready for a copy editor by January will just be impossible. –it’s just that between [3.] scripting Cataldo and lettering/pre-press on Games and Snow, [4.] revising ‘Whore of Turfan‘ will be at a snails pace–I wont have it ready for a copy editor until March 2009 [to me, that's just too long! OMG why did I take this production job??!] SO yeah, a whole year to write and revise this novel. Perhaps a year is the norm for some writers–but I’m new to writing novels [not writing] and I want to make sure it’s right. GN’s aren’t easier, they’re just easier for me in terms of time.

2009 will also be a busy time for me, because I’ll likely still have the production job, and that’s the year that the second volumes of Sacrifice and Games, release. These scripts are written all ready, so it’s no big to-do on my part, except the pre-press/lettering. Laura’s work for WINX Club will keep Cataldo in production for at least a year, so there’s nothing I need to worry about for 2009, on that front–what bothers me most is:

I wont be able to touch the sequel for [5.] Only Words until 2009, nor will I be able to get to my pulp-novels: [6.] Black Eyed Heart, [7.] Burn Me Naked, or [8.] Harlot of Fate. I have character designers and artists for these projects all ready [Carboni/Monaco]–which frustrates me, because for once, it’s me that has to actually take my time and gum up the process for near a year. [As a GN writer, it's usually the artists that take the 'year' to produce...now my artist friends are waiting on me...I feel so impotent.]

The one sweet thing about all this is…my company, my pace, my rules.
I love it. Yet I’m not above selling my soul to the highest bidder, if some pub would like to relieve me of self-producing some of the graphic novel titles, that would be nice…

On CONS:

I will make every effort to try and attend Yaoicon this year. It’s a month earlier than it normally is, which means it no longer falls on my son’s birthday. (^_-) September 26-28 will be much easier for me.

As for Yaoi Jamboree, I don’t think I’d be welcomed there as a creator…

I’ll definitely be part of A-Kon again, if I can get a guest spot; and will only be attending cons where I can ‘guest’ in order to offset the cost of travel/hotel.
