Production Post: Need More Time.
It’s here: the series bible for the show I’ll be writing for, just arrived. It’s very basic—I guess live action shows aren’t as complicated as animated ones. 0_0. I’ve got two weeks to make this series my life, and then I’m contracted to deliver at least 12 ’spring-boards’ to the primary script-writer. :/ *just wanted to add…No, I wont be turning anything in [and neither will the script-writer, until the strike is over. I AM NOT A SCAB.*
I saw a comment at the Iris blog that had me thinking. No, I don’t like the ‘aesthetic Japanese style’ of art; but even I had to admit in the end that, if this is what the mass majority of fans are buying, then I’d likely be smart to produce something in that style. A part of why Games with Me is being drawn by an artist like Lynsley Brito, and not Caroline Monaco, is that I finally gave in to the peeps who kept saying ‘make something yaoi fans will like’. :/ Another part was Caroline unwillingness to be part of the 'yaoi comics' machine. She has her reasons...from the start, Caroline’s always taken knocks about how ‘unpretty’ her male characters are. She has an eye for western looking males and a thick line style, but so do many mangaka [Kouta Hirano comes to mind]; but those artists don’t draw BL, do they? I’ve always enjoyed working with creators that have their own signature style – it’s why I love working with Laura Carboni—you can’t confuse her work, or the work of Caroline Monaco, with anyone else’s work—can you? I have to admit though; I’ve developed enormous respect for the ‘trendy style’ most popular in BL from Japan, and have come to adore the work that Lynsley’s done on Games [see pic]. She does have her own style, and I can see it for what it is. I look at the script and what’s she’s drawn of it, and I can’t imagine anyone else illustrating the story.
Today I’ll be finishing up on making the KINDLE version of Only Words, and then a PDF version for an eBook. Since I don’t have the digital rights, I’ll send them over to Iris, to see if Kellie wants to use them, or needs them. I need an eBook version anyway, in order to better approach licensors; which I admit, I STOPPED doing at the end of last year. I’m too busy to go looking for them, and half the time—they want something, for nothing.
Speaking of foreign prospects, Mr. Buiks of Bruno Gmuender Verlag got back to me—their main interest is developing content for North American audiences; even though they’re based in Germany, they aren’t interested in developing content for Germany. ok(^_^) I did appreciate his reply though, he was extremely nice.
I think the WordPress blog page for my novels line is going to work out great. I was bothered somewhat in that it might look ‘ghetto’ to have a blog in place, to promote my titles, but I’ve found that with fiction, ‘flash and showmanship’ aren’t a requirement like they are in comics; only the story matters.
Fannish: My Bishonenworks CLEX Calendar was processed in Dallas last night, and should be in my mailbox today. [SQUEE!] I love detailed tracking!
