“feminist-homosexualist axis”
Say whut? Post #18, by JK Carrier
Also, this scares me shitless.
This is what worries me about my ‘text-doujinshi’ endeavors. I’ve learned the hard way that if you’re going to self-publish, YOU MUST invest in a third-party editor.
When I turn something into a publisher, it’s not going to be perfect–they edit, as part of the publishing process, and this is what makes the book ‘ready for prime time’.
Many gay erotic writers have a wealth of great material that’s just not ‘marketable’ to the genre masses, so it gets a pass when publishers aren’t going to be able to sell it successfully, right out of the gate–this is when writers decide on the DIYing, but you can’t ignore professional help [a freelance editor is not the same as a "great beta reader']. You’re going to have to pay someone to fix the work; it’s required if you expect people to pay you for your fiction. :/
I hope the author doesn’t read this and think I’m bashing them–I’m not. I can see that the author is plenty capable of marketing and promoting this book as a any good publisher can: the web site set-up for this is great, you’re getting it reviewed–…you’re doing what any good publisher must do–BUT do what a good publisher should do, and next time, hire an independent editor. My work is completely unprintable, until I have someone clean it up. Seriously–that’s how bad I suck.
