Fan-Dork.

But first…

Must get out…alive!

Now, cut for some talk about comics–if you’re looking for something gay and yaoi, this isn’t going to help you. :)

I collect certain Wonder Woman runs, mainly those that feature an Amazon named Artemis. Now I enjoyed the bulk of Messner-Loebs run with Artemis–though I really tired of the ‘Thong Olympics’ style artwork…but I’ve discussed that before, and I wont rewind.

Does anyone remember when I inquired about getting my hands on a copy of ‘The Challenge of Artemis’ trade, [my old one befell tragedy]. The first place I went was my local comic shop; like me, the owner is a Wonder Woman fan, and is particularly fond of the well written stuff featuring the Amazons. He’s always loaded with WW trades [I saw a copy of The Contest from him at the regular price, when it was being sold new, at outrageous prices on Amazon!]. He didn’t have the Challenge of Artemis, and—he wasn’t able to get it back in stock. He wasn’t happy about that. He said that lately, interest in WW trades has gone up, and DC is being very selective about what they were making available. The last time I went in, he had classics like Paraside Lost and Paraside Found, as well as most of the Rucka collections. With no luck there, I sought out Mile High. They usually have stuff, if you email them and ask them to look. Seriously, I got all my copies of Requiem from them [the cool Artemis mini that DC never bothered to release in a trade] and so I went looking for ‘Challenge’ and they were out.

My gay left Artemis: Requiem collection.

Next, I crawled over to eBay. Well, I found two sellers—one was selling at the inflated collectible price of $136, while another seller had one up for bid, and the bidders had it at $96.50. :/ Needless to say, it was not looking good. Then my comic guy said, just go for the single issues… He was right. I firmly believe that most of the new fans trying to ‘bone up’ on Wondy these days, are coming in from the Piccolt fiasco, [one need only look at Good Reads.com to see that], or the recent press about Simon’s femtastic run, and so they’re the ones buying up all the trades. (>_&lt ;) I went looking, and sure enough, I collected ‘The Challenge of Artemis’ single issues: #94-100.

Guess how much I spent? Not $96 or over a $100. I spent a total of $8. [Not counting shipping, which wasn’t that bad [$6 total], because I used the same seller for most issues and then a seller from Texas]. The classic ‘Fall of an Amazon’ Issue, only cost .99 cents. Yeah—no one really cared about Artie dying except dorks like me (=_=);
