Gay Comic Review: Rainbow Country #2
I swear, this comic should have its own corny opening theme, and a slot on daytime tv! I like this series, it’s a guilty pleasure! While I normally detest these sorts of plots in yaoi from Japan, I can’t help but eat it up in Rainbow Country.

Now when we last left the denizens of Rainbow, our poor dejected Mark [his lover is Doctor Frank, the cheating asshole who never bothered to call and say he wouldn’t be home for dinner, because he was banging Nurse David in his office] was brought home by new-in-town and brooding stud, Philippe. Phil didn’t take advantage though, he put drunk Mark down to sleep in his guest bedroom, and then went out for a coffee…
Still written and drawn by the talented French comiker Max’ and translated and produced by Class Comics Patrick Fillion & Fraz, Issue #2 picks right up where Issue #1 left off. The wee hours of the morning…and Phil is about to talk of Mark to the waiter when a shallow ex-lover of Phil’s shows up [we saw him in issue 1, at the club. Mark drunkenly thought it was Dr. Frank.]. Ex-Lover starts kissing up to Phil because he needs a place to sleep; unfortunately he’s such an ass that I can’t be bothered to remember his name—but that’s the point [no wonder Phil dumped him]. Ex-Lover follows Phil home, only to find he has to share a bed with Phil, because passed-out Mark is in the extra bed! Undaunted, he tries to fuck Phil but gets turned down, Ex-Lover goes out in the livingroom to watch porn and jerk off. Next morning, Ex-Lover finds Mark talking to Phil in the bathroom [Phil invited him for a shower, but Mark doesn't feel right about that-] Ex-Lover recognizes Mark from the bar and insults him, right in front of Phil! Phil gets pissed and tells Ex-lower to GTFO.
Mark thanks Phil again for bringing him home and letting him crash, but then dreads having to go downstairs and get some things out of Dr. Franks.
Phil, trying to show off, volunteers to do it for him.
Of course Dr. Frank is there…and not in a good mood. [In issue 1, he got stuck in some BDSM farm shack—it’s his own fault, don't feel sorry for him!] He catches Phil as Mark is wandering down to the apartment door, wondering what the hold up is. He rings the bell and Phil answers, and they KISS! I can’t tell in the artwork who exactly initiated that kiss [I say Mark, and if it was him--WOW, talk about suddenly-assertive!] Now we have Frank, Phil, and Mark–and that kiss. Frank has the balls to ask Mark where he’s been! Mark asks the same of him–and Phil exits, but leaves it open that if Mark comes a calling, he’ll be downstairs.
Elsewhere in Rainbow, Nurse David recounts his horrid luck with tricks to Nurse Alex. David had hooked up with Wafa, who likes to talk dirty when he’s fucking. It’s degrading and annoying and David gets to add another dickhead to his list of ‘men-to-never-call-again’. [Dr. Frank being the last one.] BTW-I love the conversations between Alex and David!—they should have a series just about them!
Anyway, the only thing hindering this scene was the silly side-story about the other nurse, Felix, and his chicken-foot voodoo—I could’ve done without seeing an angry Alex give Felix a toilet-bowl swirly. I suspect though, that this is Felix’s kink…he likes being humiliated by Alex. [>.>]
Will Felix the Voodoo Queen ever tell Alex he loves him? Will Phil ever get to kick the shit out of Dr. Frank and save the princess Mark? Will Nurse David ever find a man worthy of his ass? Will Max’ stop adding farm shack orgies to the end of each comic?! Stay tuned, and check out Rainbow Country #3…I know I will. I’m addicted.
