I just spoke to a friend about ‘Lost Along the Way’, this is the second time I’ve sent it to him, this time for a read-over. He says, it now works.

When I first wrote ‘Lost’, he told me I needed to make it ‘less complicated’ if I wanted to appeal to Gay teen readers. I was like… ‘less complicated’? In his words, it was too high-lit. So I turned more complex sentences into basic ones, and sent it off to my copy-editor. After my copy-editor went through it, I asked her for feedback also—she said, Well…it was waaaay better than DMP’s “Juné novels”…!

I’m fondly reminded of something author Anne Cain said after giving a fond review of Joe Babcock’s The Boys and The Bees:

The book itself is not the most interesting read, though it’s *duh* written with a younger audience in mind…
