My title Only Words has had some issues in Poland. Many of the shops wont carry it because of the catholic-gay situation. The Nazi uniforms in the book were not that much of a problem, but the shops that my publisher deals with [they have shops they sell to all over Poland] can’t get past the sexual scene with Koby in his vestments. Then there’s the masturbation scene, and the full frontal nudity…and of course, the fact that it’s gay keeps coming up. Rather then cancel the title, Studio JG is going to print a small run and sell from site and at cons. Quite frankly, I’m shocked that they didn’t tell me the deal was off but I think it’s pretty cool they’re going through with it. I did ask that, if they’re no longer relying on their traditional sales channels to sell the book, if they could see fit to use one of the covers for the title, instead of a black cover with words on it. 0_o. I think I’m going to inquire with the German licensor as well, though I likely don’t have to because BL fares better there than it does in Poland.

Another Only Words issue…Iris is closing its door on July 31. I’ve been offered some stock of the unsold books for free [I pay the shipping] and I was going to grab a bunch of them, but I can see that in an attempt to get back some capital before closing its doors, Iris has offered the book out radically cheap. The amount of reseller vendors for Only Words has doubled at Amazon, and the prices are as low as $6. Since my percentage earned is based on the ’sale price’, I likely won’t get much from these wholesale sales–and getting the titles for myself and selling as an vendor at Borders or BN won’t do me much good if I have to compete with a dozen others and their low prices. Perhaps they will sold out by August 31 [when I can start selling the book on my own] but I doubt it. >_<

On to less professional things:

Some serious misunderstandings about the purpose of GGY-Meta.

I’m not going to rant today because I don’t do that here anymore, but I do have something to say. This morning I had some idiot-mails from people who felt slighted by some of the things I said or [get this!!] didn’t say, during the tiny blog discussion ‘To Review or Not Review‘ at another blog. Just to let those of you who did email know, you will not get a reply. Unless you’re the person I spoke of personally–then I owe you no explanation, except through here–where you obviously expect it.

In regard to Yaoi Suki. I stopped dealing with them personally after Jordan showed me she was unable able to separate knowing me on the internet, with reviewing my work. :/ I snarked about it here at GGY, which prompted some emails from Jen, but as far as I was concerned—it was finished with a mutual understanding of – let’s just not communicate anymore. ^_^ The repercussions of that had nothing to do with me [my editor at DQ felt the same way about their review style and decided not to send any review copies] and [my asking Iris not to bother sending my works to them] but I hardly think this hurt the Suki’s in any way. I made the right decision—if knowing me must be a disclaimer in your written review, then I don’t want you reviewing my work. I liked Yaoi Suki for their cons reports and news updates and that was it. [I think I said this over at that blog where they were mentioned] *scratches head*. So this email telling me that it was unfair of me to bash them? That’s retarded. No one is bashing them, learn to read and then grow up.

In regard to Boys on Boys on Film. Sending me an email asking me why I didn’t mention BoBoF shows me that you know nothing about my feelings in regard to the genre I create for. BoBoF actively ignores GloBL. :/ The curator of that website excludes all forms of GloBL on the notion that if it’s not from Japan [or Korea] she’d rather it not be reviewed there. Since my love for m/m erotic comics transcends works made in Japan, I won’t rec a site that actively promotes segregating in the artform based on the aesthetics of the country of origin. I’m sure the site is great for fans of Japanese BL, so let those fans talk about it. She has every right to run her sight the way she sees fit, and I have every right not to talk about it. ^_^v [PS - this is not me flaming, this is me answering an email demanding to know why I didn't mention your site. If you think my words are personal attacks aimed at you, then it's all in your head--please don't lose any sleep over this, lord knows-- I wont.]

In regard to that other blog I didn’t mention [got 2 emails about this one...wow!]:

Here’s the thing…if I think you’re a moron 90% of the time you post to the nets—the 10% you do manage to impress me isn’t going to make me talk about you—and it’s definitely not going to make me read you on a regular basis. So when I get emails telling me that ‘blah-blah’ does great yaoi coverage, goes to cons and they’re a fan and I should give them some mention…I say, Big deal. If they want me to actively promote them, put some silver in my hand. Come on– no one pays attention to me all that much, emailing me because I seem to be ignoring your favorite blogger is sort of weird. I’m sure she gets her daily nutritional requirement of attention from the ‘bloggers that matter’. Ok?

I hate saying this over and over again but: the fandom aspects of GGY-Meta have never been about promoting yaoi blogs or giving reviews for pubs or promoting works sent to me. I talk about things I enjoy, things I purchase, or things I’ve downloaded. I wont lie and say I never turf…if I’ve written for a company and they send me free books as payment, I will promote their books and their store… If I find an LJ that sings to me and gets my inner fangirl dancing, then I will talk about it. Just last week I was talking about the Slash Skinny Newsletter revival, yet this last one bored me and so I didn’t mention them this weekend. I’m addicted to Class Comics titles, so I review the ones I like [not the ones I don’t]. Same goes for Gay manga titles from Japan…I talk about the new ones on here that I’m actually going to pick up.

My brain, my blog.

I’m sorry random fandom—it’s not about you.

:)
